Yankees tell Derek Jeter to go seek other offers

I got an email today at work from a friend telling me that the Yankees told Derek Jeter to test the free agent offers. My first thought was this was a bunch of smoke and posturing by the New York Yankees.

Then I heard Mike Francessa of WFAN radio say at a gathering last week, he personally spoke with Yankees gm Brian Cashman who allegedly told Mike that he was negotiating with Jeter as if he was any other ballplayer.

That is the problem because Derek Jeter is not any other baseball player. He’s the face of the franchise that has done nothing but be a great commodity in the lineage of Ruth, DiMaggio, and Mantle.

That’s what Jeter is to the Yankees.

Yankees fan were calling FAN vowing to never support the Yankees again. Cashman could be making a huge mistake.

ESPN reports that the New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Tuesday that the Yankees have made a "fair and appropriate" contract offer to Derek Jeter and suggested that if the 36-year-old shortstop thinks otherwise, he should shop himself around to find out.

"We understand his contributions to the franchise and our offer has taken them into account," Cashman told ESPNNewYork.com. "We've encouraged him to test the market and see if there's something he would prefer other than this. If he can, fine. That's the way it works."

Cashman was clearly stung by the recent statement of Jeter's agent, Casey Close, who was quoted in Sunday's New York Daily News as saying he was "baffled" by the team's negotiating strategy.
"I was certainly surprised,"

Cashman said in regards to Close's use of the word baffled. "There's nothing baffling about our position. We have actually gone directly face to face with Casey and Derek and been very honest and direct. They know exactly where we sit

Lady Gaga Banned from Yankees Clubhouse After Repeatedly Groping Her Boobs

I think Madonna wannabe, Lady Gaga, has a serious drinking problem. I’m not saying she’s an alcoholic, but has she ever been in public sober?

From The New York Post:

She's persona non Gaga.

A fuming Hal Steinbrenner informed Yankee Stadium executives that
Lady Gaga is permanently banned from the team's clubhouse after her boozy antics -- including swigging whiskey and repeatedly fondling her boobs -- during a visit to the house that Ruth built Friday night, sources told The Post.

The songstress and two girlfriends sauntered their way into the Bombers' clubhouse -- without team approval -- and hung out for 30 minutes after the team lost to the Mets.

She met six players -- including Alex Rodriguez and Robinson Cano -- while the "Poker Face" singer kept slurring her words trying to say how much she loved the Yankees and how thrilled she was to be inside the exclusive area, sources said.
Gaga, drinking Jameson Irish Whiskey, was wearing a Yankees jersey half-unbuttoned, exposing her black bra, fishnet stockings and a bikini bottom.

But apparently she didn't think that was enough to catch the players' eyes, so she kept groping her chest over her jersey.
The show inside the clubhouse was news to Yankees brass.

Hal, who is co-chairman with brother Hank, club president Randy Levine, general manager Brian Cashman and manager Joe Girardi all had no idea she was going to show up, sources said.

In fact, when a Post reporter told Cashman about Gaga's presence, Cashman said, "What? I didn't know that," and stormed off.

Sources said Gaga, who left through a private exit, smooth- talked her way past stadium security.

The bizarre incident was the 24-year-old raunchy songstress' second recent run-in at a baseball game.
Gaga, who has called herself a lifelong Yankee fan, caused a spectacle at Citi Field on June 10.

She showed up in the fifth-inning and threw a tantrum when she was seated in the front-row.

After cursing out nearby photographers, she forced the team to move her to Jerry Seinfeld's luxury box.
Then she flipped off the Flushing crowd with both fingers after swilling beers.

Yankees Outfielder Nick Swisher Engaged to 'Privileged' star Joanna Garcia

Nick Swisher is stepping up his game to enter the celeb set. But, he hasn’t lived up to his advertised potential on the field as a big time prospect. He’s a 4th outfielder in my opinion.

But, that’s good enough to marry Joanna Garcia who’s not exactly a star.
From The New York Daily News:

Here's the dish on Swish: the Yankee outfielder has been keeping one big secret.

Nick Swisher told reporters Friday he's been engaged to "Privileged" actress Joanna Garcia since May 19.
The news came just before Swisher hit a two-run homer in the opener of the
Yankees' four-game series against the Cleveland Indians in the Bronx. The Bombers beat the Indians, 8-2.

Swisher, 29, confirmed he was seeing Garcia to
Sports Illustrated in September.

"Joanna is my lady," he said.

This is the second engagement for Garcia, who was previously engaged to
Justin Timberlake's business partner Trace Ayala in 2008.

Garcia, 30, will star in ABC's comedy "Better Together" next fall.

New York Yankees -- About to Get Rocked

Even though I'm a Mets fan and hate the Yankees like all good Mets fans do, I tip my hat to an organization that knows how to get it done.

And having the most money in baseball really helps too,

Yankee fans hate when you say that.

TMZ reports:

The New York Yankees better clear out some space in their jewelery boxes -- TMZ has learned the team will be getting their World Series rings on April 14th ... when they play the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
We're told the design of the ring is being kept a secret -- but we can only imagine they'll be even more ridiculous than the 2000 rings, which included 22 major diamonds.
