Microbe Eating Spilled Oil in Gulf of Mexico Proves Rush Limbaugh was Right All Along

This is what Rush said 2 months ago when Liberals were screaming that the Gulf of Mexico Oil spill was the biggest disaster ever.

Liberals are upset that they can’t find anymore oil in the Gulf. But, contrary to what they may believe, God has a knack of fixing the planet in ways we humans cannot comprehend.

Think about that sometime!

The UK Telegraph reports that a newly discovered species of microbe is breaking down oil from the BP spill in the Gulf of Mexico much faster than scientists thought possible. The leaking well was plugged on July 15 and two weeks later government scientists said that half of the oil had gone.

The new microbe was found to be breaking down oil about twice as fast as expected.

Researchers discovered the new oil-eating microbe while studying the underwater dispersion of millions of gallons which escaped after the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig in April.

It thrives in cold water in the deep sea where temperatures are around 5C (41F) and scientists said it may have adapted over time, through a process of natural selection, due to periodic leaks and natural seeps of oil in the Gulf.

When the bacteria were found to have acted on oil they consumed half of it in 1.2 to 6.1 days, giving an average of about three days. By comparison at the site of the Exxon Valdez spill in Alaska in 1989 the average "half life" was seven days.

Around 95 per cent of the bacteria in the oil plume were the new type, while outside only five per cent were.

The microbe was discovered by a team led by Terry Hazen, of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley, California. The study was reported in the journal Science.

Hazen said:"What we know about the degradation rates fits with what we are seeing in the last three weeks. We've gone out to the sites, and we don't find any oil, but we do find the bacteria."

The researchers said it provided the first ever data on microbial activity from a deep water oil plume. It suggested "a great potential" for bacteria to help dispose of oil in the deep sea.

Environmentalists have raised fears about the giant oil spill and the effects of underwater oil on sea life. Last week a mist of tiny oil droplets 22 miles (35km) long was reported.

But the researchers said the influx of oil had profoundly altered the "microbial community." They collected more than 200 samples from 17 deep water sites between May 25 and June 2. The new microbe was found to be the dominant one and, although closely related to existing petroleum degrading ones, was a new species.

The team also found that the new microbe acts without significantly depleting oxygen in the water.

There have been concerns that oil-eating activity by microbes would consume large amounts of oxygen in the water and create "dead zones" which would destroy ecosystems and fisheries.

But the study found that, while oxygen saturation outside the oil plume was 67 per cent, within the plume it was still 59 per cent. A previous study published last week suggested no decrease in oxygen.
Hundreds of thousands of barrels of oil a year seep into the Gulf every year through the sea floor.

It was suggested that oil was dispersing quickly because Gulf light crude is more biodegradable than other oil types and dispersant may have spaded up the process.

There has been much debate about what has happened to the cloud of oil, a mile wide and 650ft high, that was drifting at 4,000ft under water.

Or lets just say it’s a miracle from God and give thanks for the wonders he performs. And he might also protect us from that pesky carbon thing Liberals are so worried about.

Attention: John Boehner, Eric Cantor, and Mike Pence Turn in your Ronald Reagan Pins

Behold what a man with courage sounds like!

Yes, We Can -- Without The Government

I don’t feel good about our prospects for the upcoming mid-term elections this November.

Why?

Because we have a very serious leadership problem in the GOP.

I could put up Ronald Reagan clips on this blog from now until Election Day in November and it won’t make a damn bit of difference if leaders like John Boehner, Eric Cantor and Mike Pence capitulate to false premises set by Democrats.

As far as I’m concerned these fearful men don’t have the right to call themselves Reagan Republicans ever again because of their treatment of a true patriot like Joe Barton.

How can we expect to set this country right again with feckless leaders like these who have become so bound by political correctness?

These men have become 21st century Neville Chamberlains for appeasing Democrats and the Left by acquiescing to PC rules of speech.

Democrats said that Joe Barton had the nerve to apologize to BP.

Instead of Republicans promptly refocusing the debate back to a proper criticism of Barack Obama circumventing our constitution by acting as judge and jury without giving BP due process, Republicans quickly accepted the false premise and appeased the Democrats without a fight!

How can the Republicans win any debate when they let the Dems set the rules of what can be said and what can’t be said?

Barack Obama’s approval ratings is in the 40s and Boehner, Cantor and Pence are still are afraid of their own shadows!

We need leaders that have the intestinal fortitude to totally ignore PC rules. Kick it in the ass! Rip it up and throw it away, and say what you mean and mean what you say.

That to me would be the first sign of audacity.

And though that man or woman will be savaged by Democrats and aided by their willing hookers in the press, the amount of public support that strong leader would receive by tens of millions of Americans would be like nothing you’d ever seen before.

Who has that kind of bravery?

I know who doesn’t!

Newsweek Editor Julia Reed Says Barack Obama “Out of his cotton pick’en mind.”

I already have this vid on a prior post, but it deserves a post of its own because Reed is so dead on in her knocking Obama for stupidly shutting down all oil drilling in the gulf and throwing thousands of people out of work.

I don’t hear that expression much here in New York. The last time I heard I think was a Foghorn Leghorn cartoon I used to watch as a kid.

Julia, count me in as your newest fan.

Obama Hits Golf Course with Biden on another Hot, Humid Weekend

Yesterday Gateway Pundit reported that Obama said that he won’t rest rest until the leak in the Gulf is stopped. Then he promptly goes off to see a baseball game, the Washington Nationals vs his Chicago Whute Sox.

Now, as you know I’m a baseball fan too. And I won’t begrudge Obama taking in a game. But, when he makes these high sounding pronouncements and then doesn’t miss a party, a game and a round of golf, it rings very hollow and nobody can take the guy seriously anymore.

Oh, I hope Obama keeps right on playing his golf and shaking his booty on the dance floor.

You’re doing a damn fine job, Mr. President!

Video courtesy Gateway Pundit

From The Hill:

President Barack Obama hit the golf course Saturday with Vice President Joe Biden.

The White House pool report noted that Obama left at about 1 p.m. for the course at Andrews Air Force base, and his golfing parters included White House Trip Director Marvin Nicholson and David Katz, the energy efficiency campaign manager at the Department of Energy.

Obama left the course shortly before 6 p.m.

Nicholson and Katz, along with Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, joined Obama for
four hours of golf last weekend.

The Republican National Committee
released an ad

soon afterward taking aim at Obama's golfing during the ongoing BP oil spill crisis in the Gulf of Mexico.

The temperatures in the Washington, D.C., area Saturday were similar to last weekend, in the low 90s and humid.

Obama attended the Washington Nationals game Friday night wearing a cap for his hometown Chicago White Sox. Sources told the pool reporter that Obama sang "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" and left in the ninth inning, before the White Sox edged out the Nationals 2-1 in the 11th.

Shakedown Politics: Conservatives Speak Out Against Obama’s Government Ineptness and Other Tyrannies

Conservatives are making their voices knows and re-affirming Joe Barton’s correct charge that President Barack Obama circumvented the rule of law and acted as judge, jury, and executioner by extorting $20 billion dollars from BP.

The president and his regime committed a crime!

We need to stand up and say so otherwise our republic is in great danger. If some elected officials are too timid to defend the rights of American citizens against the makings of a tyrannical government, then we need to replace those officials with more capable replacements who love liberty more than political correctness.

Left Coast Rebel posted these videos that are well worth watching and learning about what’s happening to our country. Visit Left Coast Rebel for his wonderful commentary on this topic.

BP Oil Spill: Against Gov. Jindal's Wishes, Crude-Sucking Barges Stopped by Coast Guard

This is the incompetence of the Obama regime who seems to be more adept at extorting money from BP, Chicago style, than to actually address the problem of cleaning up the oil.

From ABC News:

59 Days Into Oil Crisis, Gulf Coast Governors Say Feds Are Failing Them

"It's the most frustrating thing," the Republican governor said today in Buras, La. "Literally, yesterday morning we found out that they were halting all of these barges."

Sixteen barges sat stationary today, although they were sucking up thousands of gallons of BP's oil as recently as Tuesday. Workers in hazmat suits and gas masks pumped the oil out of the Louisiana waters and into steel tanks. It was a homegrown idea that seemed to be effective at collecting the thick gunk.

"These barges work. You've seen them work. You've seen them suck oil out of the water," said Jindal.

Joe Barton WAS RIGHT!!! Obama Shook Down BP for 20 Bil and GOP Too Damn Timed To Call it What It Is

Cowardly Republicans

We are a nation of laws and Rep Joe Barton is absolutely in the right for calling out President Obama who has no legal authority to extort monies from BP the way he did without the benefit of due process.

This is the United States!

I am so sick and tired of these spineless, gutless, pussy-livered Republicans like Rep. Jeff Miller (R-Fla.), and House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) who always, always, ALWAYS at any sign of media-driven criticism, fold each and every time.

They are too fucking PC-conscious to ever be effective against this Stalinist president who wouldn’t hesitate to cut their throats, pull the race card, or call them defenders of the big mean and greedy oil company.

Instead of calling for Barton to step down for what he said, Jeff Miller and John Boehner should just put on a skirt and panties and let Sarah Palin, Jan Brewer, and Michelle Bachmann wear the pants because I see no reason for these guys to continue the pretense of being men!

From The Hill:

Pussy # 1 Rep. Jeff Miller (R-Fla.), said:

"I condemn Mr. Barton’s statement. Mr. Barton’s remarks are out of touch with this tragedy and I feel his comments call into question his judgment and ability to serve in a leadership on the Energy and Commerce Committee,"

Joe Barton said:

“It is a tragedy of the first proportion that a private corporation [BP] can be subjected to what I would characterize as a shakedown, in this case a $20 billion dollar shakedown,”

Jeff Miller additional comments:

“I am shocked by Congressman Joe Barton’s reprehensible comments that the government should apologize for the ‘shakedown’ of BP. BP has caused the greatest ecological and environmental disaster our nation has ever seen. They are the responsible party and they should pay for losses and damages, not the taxpayer. I am optimistic and hopeful that BP acted in good faith by opening the $20 million escrow account, as several of us have requested."

Pussy # 2
John Boehner (R-Ohio) comment:

"I have said since the beginning that BP ought to be held responsible for every dime of this tragedy. And they ought to be held accountable to stop the leak and get it cleaned up as soon as possible.”

BP has said all along that they are responsible for the spill, but that’s not the issue here. If these weak-kneed GOP politicians don’t have the stomach for the fight to point out when the president oversteps his authority, then pack up and GO HOME!

WE NEED FIGHTERS, NOT COWARDS!

Kevin Costner Says Early Use of Oil-Cleanup Machine Could Have Kept Gulf Oil Spill Offshore

I don’t know why people give Kevin Costner a hard time. I guess he somewhat fell out of favor after Water World.

But, so what?

If his machine can clean up the oil, then that’s a blessing as far as I’m concerned. And it once again would show that “free market” solutions and not government is the answer to problems.

On second thought, maybe that’s why congress is giving Kevin a hard time.

From CNS News:

Actor Kevin Costner said yesterday at a press conference on Capitol Hill that if a machine produced by a company he is a partner in had been used earlier to contain the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, “we would be keeping that [the oil] offshore.”

The machine, which Costner invested more than $20 million to develop, can separate oil from water to clean up oil spills.

Costner said that BP, the oil company whose damaged well is the source of the spill, had recently placed an order for deploying 32 of the machines.

“We’re coming to this fight very late,” said Costner. “I think everybody would recognize that. And so we’re going to do the things that we can do but this company is poised to mobilize in order to step this up and to create an environment where people can go back to work. There is a single moment that exists right at this moment and that is there are people out of work. There’s a moratorium and there’s no way to lift that unless I believe the government feels that people can operate in a safe way. This represents that pivot point.”

London Mayor Boris Johnson To Obama: Shut Your Yapper, Stop Bashing BP

On an earlier post, Another Obama Mistake-Lawsuit Talk BP, I argue as an investor, there is a school of thought that encourages stock holders to sell their holdings if their company gets hit with a serious class action lawsuit that may really put a hurting on the business.

As such, it’s my opinion that the reason BP has lost so much market value is because many stock investors are trying to preserve the capital they’ve invested in BP.

Left Coast Rebel, one the best political blogs on the net raises similar questions over Obama’s handling of BP.

From London Evening Standard:

Mayor Boris Johnson demanded an end to “anti-British rhetoric, buck-passing and name-calling” after days of scathing criticism directed at BP by the President and other US politicians.

Former Conservative Party chairman Lord Tebbit branded Mr Obama's conduct “despicable”. And with the dispute threatening to escalate into a diplomatic row, Mr Johnson also appeared to suggest that David Cameron should step in to defend BP.

He spoke as the US onslaught against the firm became a “matter of national concern” — especially given its importance to British pensions, which lost much of their value today as BP shares plunged to a 13-year low.

Left Coast Rebel writes:

Interesting.

This got me thinking.

Why is it that Obama Justice is suing BP and potentially driving them into bankruptcy in the middle of the entire nightmare?

Who will pick up the tab if the Thug-in-Chief community agitates BP into chapter 11? Who pays for the cleanup then, liberals?

I'd like to hear an answer to that.

LCR, so would I.

If I was in Obama’s place, the last thing I would do is pursue BP with lawyers and kill the stock price, especially when BP is the only entity that can solve the problem and pay off claims. You’re killing the goose that lays the golden eggs.

How dumb is that?

But, Obama doesn’t know a damn thing about any of this.

BP Buses Cleanup Crews to Grand Isle for for Obama Photo-Op

As previously reported on TLT on May 5th, Barack Obama was the biggest recipient of BP cash for his presidential run. That’s truly amazing since Barack Obama trashed the Oil industry on the campaign trial.

Or is it just playing politics to say one thing for public consumption and after the teleprompter is turned off, go out and have a beer with BP honchos and laugh as a big fat check slides across the table.

When the Obama administration says that they have their boot on the neck of BP, don’t believe the hype folks.

It’s all for show because Barry Obama and BP are uncover partners perpetrating a sham and what happened yesterday is just another example.

From Nola.com:

BP, the oil company taking flak for its inconsistent response to the massive oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico, bused in 400 extra cleanup workers to Grand Isle during President Obama's visit today, Jefferson Parish Council Chairman John Young said.

"It appears to have been a PR stunt by BP, not to say we don't appreciate the extra participation," Young said. "We certainly need them, but we don't need them for just one day that happens to coincide with a visit from the president."Obama made his second visit today to Louisiana's oil-stricken coast, stopping in Grand Isle and Port Fourchon.Young said he saw the workers dressed in red shirts, blue jeans and black shrimp boots mulling across the beaches and in the mess hall during the president's appearance. They were uniformed in a way "which you don't normally see workers dressed like that," Young said. After Obama's departure, Young said, the work crews all but vanished.
"This is a total shame that a mockery has been made of this visit by the executives of BP," Councilman Chris Roberts said."What we want to make clear (is) if they're going to send them, then send them everyday, not just on the day of the president's visit," Councilman Tom Capella said.BP spokesman Mike Abendhoff denied it was done solely for publicity.
"Obviously, it's unfortunate that that's what people are thinking," Abendhoff said. "We're not sending people for PR stunts. We're sending people to clean up this oil."Abendhoff said the additional workers are part of BP's efforts gradually to increase its presence on Louisiana beaches to meet the incoming oil. "We've continued to add resources every day," he said.

Donald Nalty, the chief operating officer of Environment, Safety, Health, Inc., the subcontractor that hired the workers, said Friday that the additional force in Grand Isle and Fourchon was part of a ramping up that will likely continue. He said the decision to bring on the additional workers was made May 23, before the president's visit was announced.

Nalty said 300 workers had been cleaning Grand Isle and 150 cleaning Fourchon. On Friday 400 additional workers were added in Grand Isle and an additional 100 to Fourchon, Nalty said.

"It had nothing to do with the president coming to town,'' Nalty said. "It was 100-percent coincidental. All the allegations to the contrary are false.''
