Elvis Presley once invited Raquel Welch “someplace that I decided not to go,” she told Oprah Winfrey today. “I just didn’t want to be another notch in his gun.”
That response came after Winfrey asked if Presley ever tried to seduce Welch.
In her memoir, “Beyond the Cleavage,”
Welch writes that “sex is overrated and constantly hyped far beyond what it can deliver. If you’re lucky, it occurs with some regularity, but it’s not the whole enchilada.”
In an interview, Welch told Winfrey: “Sex is great, of course. But sex, to me, is an expression of the relationship and the feelings that you have for somebody else.”
Welch said we’ve become a culture of “sexhibitionists,” with everyone from porn stars to children sexualized. “This is kind of crazy,” Welch said. “We’re sort of programming this kind of an attitude toward life, when it’s really all about developing your whole self.”
Welch said the sexual image she projected was part of her role as a professional actress, “but it’s not me as a person.”
