Tragedy in Black and White: A Father (John White) Goes to Prison for Defending his Family in Racially Charged Killing
There comes a time when a man has to step up and be a Man!
I don’t blame John White for protecting his family against a group of drunken teenage boys who wanted to do harm to his son.
What is a father supposed to do?
However, I do fault the parents of the boys who showed up at the White’s home, at night, acting like a mob wanting to inflict mob justice over an internet rumor.
What kind of parenting did these hoodlums receive in their home that taught them that violence is the solution to any problem?
That night wasn’t the first time those teens acted out and they ended up terrorizing the wrong house.
If we took better care of our children and taught them moral values and respect for others, John White would be a free man and Daniel Ciciaro would still be alive today.
But, it’s always easier to point fingers at others for our mistakes than to look in the mirror and accept blame.
New Post
A black Long Island homeowner convicted of killing a white teenager during a group confrontation surrendered today for his prison term.
John White, 56, appeared this morning at criminal court in Riverhead, Long Island following several failed appeals where he was taken into custody to begin his sentence. White will have to serve at least 20 months following his manslaughter conviction for killing Daniel Ciciaro, Jr. in 2006.
The victim's mother, Joanne Cicciaro said the passage of four years had not blunted her anger towards White.
"I thank God that the appellate courts understood and knew the truth," Cicciaro said. "My son was a good boy; he was sticking up for his friend."
Before entering court, White said he wanted to thank all the people who "supported me in my effort for justice."
White claimed he shot Cicciaro Jr. accidentally after the teen and four buddies descended on his home and wrongly accused his son of threatening online to rape a friend of theirs.
White, a construction foreman, shot Cicciaro Jr. in August 2006 after he and four friends descended on White's suburban Miller Place home to confront his teenage son, Aaron.
The group, which defense attorneys labeled a slur-spewing "lynch mob," wrongly believed that he had threatened to rape their friend during an online chat session.
UPDATE: LI Race-Slayer's Wife: I'll Fight for Justice
Moments after seeing her husband surrender to serve up to four years for the 2006 racially-charged slaying of a white teen who menacingly descended on their Long Island home, a defiant Sonia White yesterday vowed to fight on.
"I don't understand this justice system," she said outside the court in Riverhead. "I am going to stand for justice and I am not going to back down."
After a series of failed appeals, John White, 56, of Miller Place, began serving a 2-to-4-year prison term yesterday for the shooting death of Daniel Cicciaro Jr., 17, in August 2006. He could be freed in 20 months on good behavior.
Cicciaro Jr. and four friends approached White's home to confront his teenage son, Aaron, believing he had threatened a friend with rape in an online chat room. The girl later recanted the claim.
