Microbe Eating Spilled Oil in Gulf of Mexico Proves Rush Limbaugh was Right All Along

This is what Rush said 2 months ago when Liberals were screaming that the Gulf of Mexico Oil spill was the biggest disaster ever.

Liberals are upset that they can’t find anymore oil in the Gulf. But, contrary to what they may believe, God has a knack of fixing the planet in ways we humans cannot comprehend.

Think about that sometime!

The UK Telegraph reports that a newly discovered species of microbe is breaking down oil from the BP spill in the Gulf of Mexico much faster than scientists thought possible. The leaking well was plugged on July 15 and two weeks later government scientists said that half of the oil had gone.

The new microbe was found to be breaking down oil about twice as fast as expected.

Researchers discovered the new oil-eating microbe while studying the underwater dispersion of millions of gallons which escaped after the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig in April.

It thrives in cold water in the deep sea where temperatures are around 5C (41F) and scientists said it may have adapted over time, through a process of natural selection, due to periodic leaks and natural seeps of oil in the Gulf.

When the bacteria were found to have acted on oil they consumed half of it in 1.2 to 6.1 days, giving an average of about three days. By comparison at the site of the Exxon Valdez spill in Alaska in 1989 the average "half life" was seven days.

Around 95 per cent of the bacteria in the oil plume were the new type, while outside only five per cent were.

The microbe was discovered by a team led by Terry Hazen, of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley, California. The study was reported in the journal Science.

Hazen said:"What we know about the degradation rates fits with what we are seeing in the last three weeks. We've gone out to the sites, and we don't find any oil, but we do find the bacteria."

The researchers said it provided the first ever data on microbial activity from a deep water oil plume. It suggested "a great potential" for bacteria to help dispose of oil in the deep sea.

Environmentalists have raised fears about the giant oil spill and the effects of underwater oil on sea life. Last week a mist of tiny oil droplets 22 miles (35km) long was reported.

But the researchers said the influx of oil had profoundly altered the "microbial community." They collected more than 200 samples from 17 deep water sites between May 25 and June 2. The new microbe was found to be the dominant one and, although closely related to existing petroleum degrading ones, was a new species.

The team also found that the new microbe acts without significantly depleting oxygen in the water.

There have been concerns that oil-eating activity by microbes would consume large amounts of oxygen in the water and create "dead zones" which would destroy ecosystems and fisheries.

But the study found that, while oxygen saturation outside the oil plume was 67 per cent, within the plume it was still 59 per cent. A previous study published last week suggested no decrease in oxygen.
Hundreds of thousands of barrels of oil a year seep into the Gulf every year through the sea floor.

It was suggested that oil was dispersing quickly because Gulf light crude is more biodegradable than other oil types and dispersant may have spaded up the process.

There has been much debate about what has happened to the cloud of oil, a mile wide and 650ft high, that was drifting at 4,000ft under water.

Or lets just say it’s a miracle from God and give thanks for the wonders he performs. And he might also protect us from that pesky carbon thing Liberals are so worried about.

London Mayor Boris Johnson To Obama: Shut Your Yapper, Stop Bashing BP

On an earlier post, Another Obama Mistake-Lawsuit Talk BP, I argue as an investor, there is a school of thought that encourages stock holders to sell their holdings if their company gets hit with a serious class action lawsuit that may really put a hurting on the business.

As such, it’s my opinion that the reason BP has lost so much market value is because many stock investors are trying to preserve the capital they’ve invested in BP.

Left Coast Rebel, one the best political blogs on the net raises similar questions over Obama’s handling of BP.

From London Evening Standard:

Mayor Boris Johnson demanded an end to “anti-British rhetoric, buck-passing and name-calling” after days of scathing criticism directed at BP by the President and other US politicians.

Former Conservative Party chairman Lord Tebbit branded Mr Obama's conduct “despicable”. And with the dispute threatening to escalate into a diplomatic row, Mr Johnson also appeared to suggest that David Cameron should step in to defend BP.

He spoke as the US onslaught against the firm became a “matter of national concern” — especially given its importance to British pensions, which lost much of their value today as BP shares plunged to a 13-year low.

Left Coast Rebel writes:

Interesting.

This got me thinking.

Why is it that Obama Justice is suing BP and potentially driving them into bankruptcy in the middle of the entire nightmare?

Who will pick up the tab if the Thug-in-Chief community agitates BP into chapter 11? Who pays for the cleanup then, liberals?

I'd like to hear an answer to that.

LCR, so would I.

If I was in Obama’s place, the last thing I would do is pursue BP with lawyers and kill the stock price, especially when BP is the only entity that can solve the problem and pay off claims. You’re killing the goose that lays the golden eggs.

How dumb is that?

But, Obama doesn’t know a damn thing about any of this.

Obama Don’t Like Black Pelicans

Barack Obama had no problem pointing out in great detail just how incompetent he thought George W. Bush was for his mishandling of Hurricane Katrina.

He didn’t care that it wasn’t Bush’s decision to send thousands of Black people to the Super Dome where conditions became deplorable. That decision was made by local politicos but Obama never bothered to set the record straight.

Before, April 20, 2010 when you said “Katrina” nothing else needed to be said.

It was understood by many thanks to a deceitful mainstream media that “Katrina” meant George W. Bush didn’t like Black people, or George Bush was an incompetent boob, or that George Bush lied and people died, and don’t forget those are Black faces you’re watching with tears in their eyes at Super Dome.

It was all a horrible twisting of the truth that Barrack Obama took advantage of without hesitation or apology.

But, was it all George Bush’s fault, really?

Barack Obama and the Democrats didn’t care one way or another.

But then Deep Water Horizon exploded and sank in the Gulf of Mexico and 50 days later, oil is still flowing in the water. But, now it’s Barack Obama sitting in the White House with his own disaster on his hands and he’s catching an attitude because he’s getting criticized by the same media that had it out for Bush.

By comparison, the media has treated Obama kindly after the first few days but as Obama flew off on vacation, attended this dinner party or that theater outing, all the while trying to say that he’s been on top of the situation since day 1, even the the Obama-boot-licking media have reluctantly become more bewildered that the man who promised to be a competent leader while standing under Greek columns, has feet of clay after all.

The explosion and subsequent oil spill wasn’t Barack Obama’s fault.

But, how he’s handled himself since then, is.

And the only thing Barack Obama knows how to do well is to be an agitator (See Sol Alinsky Rules for Radicals).

So instead of sending Navy Seals or submarines, mega oil tankers to suck up the oil, or immediately give Gov Bobby Jindall the permits he needed to build 6 sand burms, Obama sends lawyers.

Obama was being Obama.

And the same coolness that everybody loved so much about him, has suddenly become a detriment and has fallen out of favor when black-oil covered Pelicans become Obama’s version of Black people trapped in the Super Dome.

Oh the irony, or is it just superstition?
